Photos need to sent in either a JPEG or TIFF format. For best quality printing, we require all digital photo images to be a minimum size of 4"by 6" set at 300dpi. If you have any questions or concerns about your photos please email us at customerservice@leavesandletters.com A few of our favourite tips for great photos: - Always, always set your digital camera to the highest resolution possible. This is especially important if you want to crop a photo later.
- Keep it simple. Make sure that the photo subject is the focus of the picture ... so you want to avoid busy background as well as distracting objects and clothing colours.
- Close up pictures work best for photo cards. Many of the photo cards have smaller photo boxes ... think close ups of a baby's face or waist up shots of a group of people.
- "Light is the first of painters" - Ralph Waldo Emerson. Try to capture the light in your subject's eyes by positioning them in front of a large window on a sunny day or a similar light source. The play of light and shadow has inspired artists for hundreds of years.
- "When I say I want to photograph someone, what I really mean is that I'd like to know them" - Anne Leibovitz . Good photos are not always about a pretty smile ... try to capture an expression, a feeling or a moment that makes you smile when you see it.
- Whether you are taking the photo yourself or hiring a professional photographer it's good to get inspired by other photographer's styles and photography before you get started. You can find inspiration everywhere ... magazines, books, websites and photographer blogs.
Other things to know: Brightly coloured photos work best with neutral or light coloured card designs. Black and white photos work best with brightly coloured card designs. Keep the card design you want to order in mind when you are selecting your photo ... card designs will require pictures to be cropped as a vertical, horizontal or square. Please note: If you are sending a professional photograph, please be sure to get a signed release form from the photographer allowing us to reproduce the photograph. Leaves & Letters Limited does not take responsibility for the images sent to us by our customers.
